Dave Moffatt

David J. Moffatt, B.A.Sc. (Geological Engineering), P. Eng.

Dave has a successful track record delivering results in technical, commercial and project development in the upstream, midstream and natural gas storage sectors of the natural gas industry and related energy projects. He has over 40 years of project management, business and project development, risk management, geological & reservoir engineering experience including creating and overseeing multi-disciplinary technical teams for clients and employers. In the past 25 years, Dave has been heavily involved in:

  • the successful technical development and commercialization of three major gas storage facilities in Alberta;
  • project management, including technical oversight, of a multi-disciplinary reservoir team determining the feasibility and risk assessment of injecting large-scale carbon capture and storage into a large regional salt-water aquifer in British Columbia;
  • evaluating/managing gas supply (reserves and production) for large pipeline and facilities to end use customers;
  • risk management associated with well drilling and recompletions into existing propane storage in salt caverns in Saskatchewan;
  • acid gas injection into aquifers; and,
  • evaluating geothermal projects.

Dave is very experienced balancing the technical requirements (reservoir, pipeline and facilities) with the project, business and risk management objectives. He has very good understanding of the technical issues and work required for determining the field/reservoir well development plan, well locations, reservoir delineation, modeling and reservoir performance including applicable hydrogeology to provide a water supply for end use customers as well as the importance of delivering on time and on budget.
